Aho. in collaboration with Rafael Ayala and Inti and Waira House is honoured to invite you to a Singing and Hapé Circle with Taita Jose Mora, a direct disciple of Taita Querubin Queta Alvarado and a bearer of the Cofan tradition from Colombia.
Taita Jose Mora, a prolific songwriter whose Icaros carry the profound wisdom of the Putumayo-Colombia rainforest. Taita Jose will share his beautiful songs, sacred medicine (hape), and captivating stories about the late chief, Taita Querubin.
The Cofán people are the remnants of a once-numerous riverine culture that has traditionally occupied what is today the northeastern corner of Ecuador and the corresponding region to the north in Colombia and have lived for centuries in the forests at the center of the Earth, where the Amazon Basin stretches toward the sky on the slopes of the Andes mountains and its multiple volcanoes.
Hapé is the preparation of powdered medicinal herbs, often with a tobacco base. Hapé is typically made with mapacho - Hapé elicits a feeling of alertness and elevation that surpasses most other natural plant-based effects. Sharing hapé – is traditionally a ritualistic practice among Amazonian tribes that may include specific chants to activate the force of the hapé and to confer the healing power of the forest.
This is a rare opportunity to experience the rich traditions of the Amazon rainforest and meet Taita Jose Mora firsthand.
